Celebrating the Women of Crate Brewery
We’re raising our pint glasses to the women who make Crate Brewery what it is. From the kitchen to the bar, behind the scenes to front of house, there are some incredible powerhouses who drive Crate forward every day.
Jess, Founding Director
Since day one, our founding director Jess has been building our mini-empire here in Hackney Wick. Crate started as an idea during the 2012 Olympics and has grown into a vibrant canal-side venue that's proudly rooted in sustainability, creativity, and community, and is built for connected experiences and memory making.
Jess showcases the ways in which good ideas and drive combined can create great things. She’s an awesome source of inspiration and the person you want at the table, every time, so you can sponge up some of the goodness and ambition that she naturally gives.
From Neil, Founding Director -

Jen, Managing Director
At the helm of Crate’s leadership, Jen guides with care, knowledge, and vision. She’s everywhere in the business, and carrying so much expertise, always shows up and makes herself available to hash out qualms, big or small. The world would be infinitely better if everyone had a Jen in their ranks.

She knows every staff member by name, understands their role, and recognises their unique strengths. Despite her demanding schedule, she still gets hands-on — working floor shifts during busy hours at bartending at high-energy festivals.

Lily, Events Manager
The energy behind our epic events schedule, ensuring every music event, taproom takeover, and gathering at Crate is unforgettable. If there’s a terrace party in full swing, you can bet Lily is at the heart of it.

‘I am personally thankful for Lily taking on the role as Events Manager because she has such a drive to succeed, cares deeply about her job and takes no sh*t from anyone!
‘Lily has developed Crate's own summer series of terrace parties that have opened us up to a whole new audience of guests for the future. In her role she has only grown, and has recently taken lead on events in Silo, where she secured multiple private hires within a matter of weeks.
‘Every time we work together at one of her events, I see her drive and passion shine through. I have nothing but respect for Lily and long may I have the opportunity to work with her!’
Georgia P - People and Communications Manager
Georgia is another key figure that has spent time across multiple areas of Crate. Starting off as Retail Manager in The White Building Market during the pandemic, G has traversed day-to-day operations, marketing, and team management, with her most recent post as People and Communications Manager keeping her busy in the head office up until Christmas.
You’d typically find G getting stuck in to a myriad of tasks to support Crate, but her presence is currently missed in the office; for very good reason. She’s hands on looking after her sweetest Phoebe who was born earlier this year!
Georgia H Bookings Manager
Georgia H was instrumental in strengthening our bookings department post-COVID, taking it to new heights. While Georgia is also a little preoccupied, focused on raising her super sweet wee Axl, her legacy remains strong in the Crate team, and it’s often mentioned among teammates how much of a legend she is.

‘Georgia basically rebuilt the bookings department, implementing a new system that saves us thousands per year while ensuring the team is trained to use it effectively.
‘She has such a way with guests that even if they were calling to complain, they’d be happy by the end of the call!’.
Now that is a superpower.
Paula, Bookings Manager
Paula is the voice behind the scenes, ensuring things run smoothly. From managing the phone lines and coordinating events to keeping the studio buzzing, she’s a vital part of our team. Paula has excelled in her roles, proving to be a quick thinker with a practical but caring approach. Her efficiency, combined with her charm, brings vital energy and warmth to the venue.

‘Paula initially stepped in on an ad-hoc basis to cover Georgia H, and it was immediately clear she was a natural. She picked up every process instantly and has since become invaluable.
‘Paula is integral to supporting a smooth bookings process for both Crate and Silo, has an excellent way with our guests, and, having shown so much drive, will be assisting Lily with the summer events schedule’.
Adi and Maria, Bar Supervisors
This pair of superstar supervisors serve up good energy and great service at the bar.
From the moment you walk in, they’re the friendly faces welcoming you, the hands pouring the perfect pint, and the driving force keeping the vibes high — whether it’s a packed-out weekend or a slow afternoon. They’re not just pouring drinks; they’re managing crowds, handling complex orders, and reading the room to keep things flowing.
Their ability to work the bar, maintain the energy, and provide warm hospitality makes them invaluable — not just to the team, but to every guest who walks through the door.

‘Maria and Adi stand out in their roles because they uplift and motivate the team, even on the busiest days. They make nights at the bar better by bringing immaculate vibes to every shift.’.
Oana, Pizza Chef
You’ll find Oana quietly working her magic out the back, crafting the pizzas that keep guests coming back for more (and feeding the team on a daily basis!). The kitchen wouldn’t be quite right without her energy and we’re glad she’s there to keep the rest of the crew in check.

‘Her positive energy is contagious, which creates a welcoming atmosphere for our team and our guests. She’s always there with a smile, and often down for a laugh. She cooks with care and binds the kitchen team together’.
Moon, Head Chef, Silo
The mastermind in the kitchen, Moon creates dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Her talent and precision bring our food to life, one zero waste plate at a time.
With a calm and steady presence, Moon moves through the kitchen, effortlessly improving everything around her. She eases the pressure, and brings a sense of calm to what can often be a chaotic environment. Her leadership isn’t loud or forceful — it’s gentle, influential, and rooted in deep knowledge and passion for her craft.
From apprentice to leading the kitchen in just four years, Moon’s journey speaks volumes about her dedication, talent, and growth.
