Crate Wood Wharf; Reimagining a New Space

We’ve picked up the keys to 14 Water Street, and the transformation is underway. The space is being stripped back, rebuilt, and reimagined the Crate way.

The bar is forming

Our Wood Wharf taps are in! And, the fridges are being filled with goodies. We're now just days from opening the doors.

Planter boxes in build

The team is busy building planter boxes for our riverside terrace. Soon it’ll be seating up to 80 guests, with bi-fold doors creating a seamless indoor-outdoor flow come the new year.

Fresh floors down

Back-of-house has had a refresh with new linoleum flooring.

All hands on deck

Walls are going up, paint is going on, and furniture is being assembled. A big thanks to everyone pitching in- every brushstroke, knock-down and rebuild gets us closer to opening day.

This week also marked another milestone: the sprinkler and fire alarm system is in. Tick, tick. On track for early October opening.

Rewiring

With the bar front in, the wiring of electrics has started. We're just a couple of weeks from opening now, so the pace on site has picked up.

The bar is in!

The bar front design mirrors our Hackney Wick original. It's a 7m-long staggered block structure, crafted from repurposed railway sleepers. It takes centre stage in the new space, and we can’t wait to start pouring from it soon.

With the new bar in place, it's time to start reconstructing our back-of-house space. The pizza oven has been delivered, and is awaiting install.

Heavy lifting

It took four practice runs and some serious muscle to get the new bar-front assembled. Each sleeper has to line up perfectly. No easy task but worth every ounce of effort.

The furniture factory

Before the keys even landed, we were grafting. We leased a second warehouse in Hackney Wick to build custom furniture and fixtures for Wood Wharf. It’s DIY, Crate style.

A closer look at the details: the bar is made from reclaimed railway sleepers, fitted with sturdy olive-green springs as spacers. Simple, sleek, and sturdy.

A first-look

Once the keys were in hand, the team headed straight over for a first walk-through. From old restaurant shell to future Crate Bar and Pizzeria. Let's do this!
